RSV

RSV has been so prevalent this winter, it seemed like we went to their 18 month check up in January where they said "Beware: RSV" and then about a week later (February 6th) Bailee was back in the office and they were telling me she had it.

She had been so sick with a cold that we started her on Albuterol treatments.

When she wasn't getting better and she stopped eating and drinking and her diapers were next to dry for the whole night I thought we better take her in. They tested her for RSV and it came back possitive. She also had a double ear infection. Poor little girl.

So they sent us to the Prescription Center for a bolust (just a fancy way of saying they pushed fluids for her) and they were supposed to do a blood draw too. But they couldn't. Why? Remember all those old posts about how sassy and stubborn this little girl is? That's why. Add on top of that that she is sick and she hadnt had a nap yet, or food for that matter becasue we had been in doctors offices all afternoon, and her personality nearly quadruples in size. She may be tiny, but she is a fighter. She screamed and Screamed and SCREAMED!!! She kicked and pulled, twisted and turned and when they finally got into the vein, which is tiny because she still only weighs 19 1/2 pounds, the vein blew. So we started all over again... About thirty minutes and five Dum Dum suckers later we finally got an IV in her little arm and got it taped on. We pushed the bolust and said forget the blood draw (Thank goodness!!)becasue their was no way we were going to get it without blowing her vein again.

Bailee if you ever read this you should know that the nurses said you were the fightingest patient they had ever seen, and that you were even worse than the two and three year olds that they have come in. Grammy attributes it to being a NICU baby. She said you learned to be a fighter in there. You're a good girl.

I didnt get too many pictures (I wonder why?) but this is her, finally content to sit in mommas lap with her bazillionth dum dum.

This was her IV all wrapped up in an arm board and LOTS of horse wrap so that she couldnt pull it out.

This was her on the way home. She was so tired. She only asked for one cookee (veggie straw) and then she couldnt even eat it, she fell asleep before we got to Teri's to pick up Brigham. We finally got home around 5pm. And then we had to go back the next morning to have her checked again. She got another bolust at the Prescription Center and then we were clear to go home. Dr. Edwards was kind enough to keep checking Brigham everytime he saw us because he thought that he would for sure get it. He was right, I'm pretty sure... He was just as sick and snotty nosed and grumpy as Bailee was although we didnt take him in becasue he didnt ever get as dehydrated as Bailee did. We just pushed lots of fluids and did albuterol treatments for him.

He was also kind (NOT!) enough to tell us that RSV is recurring. It goes away for six weeks and then comes back, and then goes away for six weeks and then comes back in the middle of the summer... Lovely...
